A full set of grading
tools and effects right on your laptop - SpeedGrade OnSet 2008
What's New in SpeedGrade OnSet 2008
The new version of IRIDAS' look creation application offers signficantly
enhanced secondaries controls, new FX, such as Technicolor 2-Strip and
3-Strip, a new FrameCycler launch button for instant playback of
sequences with grading applied, and support for the Tangent
CP200 BK trackball panel. The CP200 offers a more tactile approach to color grading and makes
it easier to apply fine adjustments.
With the new live controls for Cine-tal Cinemage display, SpeedGrade OnSet grabs frames from display at the push of a button. Looks are sent
back to the display via the network and applied to the live HD-SDI
stream. From there, SpeedGrade OnSet's new live controls allow the user
to fine-tune the look further from their laptop while watching the
results in the Cinemage display.
RAW File Format Support
SpeedGrade OnSet supports several new RAW formats including ARRI D21,
Silicon Imaging SI2K, Phantom HD and Phantom 4K RAW, Dalsa RAW and WEISSCAM HS1 RAW so cinematographers can view RAW frames
directly without first having to convert the file format.
Exchanging LUTs
Combined with the ability to output .Look files and third-party LUTs,
such as Filmlight LUTs and LUTher tables, SpeedGrade OnSet offers a
complete solution for developing, and communicating creative looks at
any stage in the filmmaking process.
Powerful Grading and Effects
SpeedGrade OnSet offers a streamlined workflow for creating and
fine-tuning looks. All grades are done in floating point so no color is
lost: you can bring it back from black (or white) at anytime. Effects,
such as bleach bypass, Technicolor 3-strip, or day-for-night are
included with the application allowing the user to make short work of
even highly stylized looks.
Third-party LUTs (Look-up Tables) can be loaded for calibration, or
even included within a creative look, for example to emulate the
appearance of a certain film stock.

The Editable, Mobile .Look File Format
SpeedGrade OnSet saves all grading work in the IRIDAS
.Look file format. Each .Look file contains a working LUT, the ASC color
algorithms, and all of the SpeedGrade settings used to create. Looks can
be fine-tuned, or copied and modified for different shots. Look files
are very small, typically around 20KB, which makes them easy to store
and share. A reference JPEG of each look is saved with the .Look file
and updated automatically to reflect changes.
Browser Desktop
SpeedGrade OnSet includes a powerful browser desktop for
finding and opening images. The browser desktop displays thumbnails of
images in any of the many formats SpeedGrade OnSet can open. Frame
sequences also display as thumbnails which can be “scrubbed” to find the
specific frame the user wants to work with.
Manage .Looks
Drag-and-drop file management in the look browser simplifies
the tasks of accessing, moving, and duplicating looks. Tabbed Look
Browser panels make it easy to organize and access .Look libraries.
Image Analysis
SpeedGrade OnSet includes a set of image analysis tools including
vectorscope, histogram, waveform and an interactive zoom tool for examining parts
of an image more closely. Clicking anywhere on the image brings up a
color picker.

The Color Pipeline
With SpeedGrade OnSet, cinematographers can collaborate
with the colorist during preproduction or production. Looks can be
applied in FrameCycler for color graded digital dailies. Looks can also
be exported in a variety of LUT formats, or as graded DPX images.

SpeedGrade OnSet uses the same .Look file format as SpeedGrade XR and
SpeedGrade DI so the colorist can work with exactly the right looks
during DI and finishing.
